The society's system
First: The name of the society and its headquarters
The Saudi Society for Geosciences is an independent scientific society administratively and financially overseen by King Saud University. Its headquarters are located in the Department of Geology, College of Science, King Saud University, Riyadh. Branches may be established in other locations as deemed necessary.
The objectives of the society
The Saudi Society for Geosciences aims to achieve the following:
- Promoting and developing scientific thought in the field of earth sciences.
- Facilitating scientific communication among members of the society.
- Providing scientific advice in the field of earth sciences.
- Enhancing the scientific and professional performance of the society's members.
- Facilitating the exchange of scientific output and ideas in the fields of interest of the society among relevant bodies and institutions within and outside the Kingdom.
Thirdly: The activities of the society
The society achieves its goals through all appropriate means, particularly by engaging in the following activities:
- Encouraging scientific research and consultations.
- تأليف وترجمة الكتب العلمية في مجال علوم الأرض وما يتصل به من مجالات أخرى.
- Conducting scientific studies to enhance aspects of practical application.
- Organizing seminars, workshops, and courses related to the fields of interest of the society.
- Publishing scientific studies and journals related to earth sciences.
- Participating in local and international exhibitions.
- Inviting scientists and thinkers related to participate in the activities of the society according to organized procedures.
- Organizing scientific expeditions for society members and hosting scientific competitions in the field of specialization.
Fourthly: Membership
Membership is granted by the Board of Directors of the society and is categorized into four types:
- A - Honorary Membership: Granted after approval by the General Assembly to individuals and institutions who have provided material or moral services or contributed to the development of the field of earth sciences.
- B - Active Membership: Granted to individuals holding a university degree in earth sciences or related fields (annual membership fee of 200 SAR).
- C - Affiliate Membership: Granted to individuals without a university degree and students in related fields (annual membership fee of 100 SAR).
Fifthly: The Board of Directors
The society is managed by a Board of Directors consisting of a maximum of nine members, elected by secret ballot from among the society's members during the General Assembly. Board members serve for a term of three years, renewable once. The Board is responsible for setting the general policies of the society and presenting them to the General Assembly for approval. Additionally, the Board issues the necessary rules and instructions for implementing the society's bylaws.
Sixthly: The President of the Board of Directors
He is elected by the Board of Directors through a secret ballot from among its members, for a term of three years, renewable once, and he serves as the President of the society.
Seventhly: The General Assembly
It consists of all active members who have paid their annual dues. The General Assembly holds regular meetings annually at a designated time. The General Assembly has the following responsibilities:
- 1- Issuing regulations that govern the internal operations of the society.
- 2- Approving the annual budget of the society.
- 3- Approving the annual report on the activities of the society prepared by the Board of Directors.
- 4- Electing members of the Board of Directors.
- 5- Approving the annual work plan presented by the Board of Directors.
- 6- Discussing all items on its agenda.
Eighthly: The resources of the society
The resources of the society consist of:
- 1- Annual membership fees
- 2- Proceeds from the sale of the society's publications and printed materials
- 3- Fees from conferences, seminars, workshops, or training programs organized by the society.
- 4- Grants, donations, sponsorships, and subsidies provided to the society by government entities, public or private organizations, or individuals.
